| Job Description |
* Ensure the effective and timely delivery of extensible, high-quality software systems
* Utilize development best practices, methodologies and standards throughout the development process.
* Work with Development Manager, Product Managers and Customer Implementation Leaders to gain understanding of customer requirements and features.
* Assist with the analysis and design of Call Genie's commercial applications and translate them into proven Java based solutions.
* Plan development activities and provide estimates of efforts required to meet development and implementation objectives.
* Review peer code to ensure proficiency, effectiveness and conformity to standards and best practices.
* Code new applications, features, interfaces, automation tools, and maintenance changes.
* Develop and implement tools to assist with automating tasks, testing or enhancing productivity.
* Writes software and test cases.
* Maintains software documentation.
* Participates in design discussions.
* Performs code reviews.
* Has demonstrated excellent software development skills and knowledge of best practices.
* Gathers requirements and writes specifications.
* Initiates and follows through on process improvements.
* Actively contributes to the betterment of the development team by: mentoring; advocacy; participation in discussions (online and off); volunteering to present at Lunch and Learns.
* Helps enforce adherence to our established practices, including: code reviews; QA process; Scrum process.
* Has intimate knowledge of at least one key project and is a significant contributor to the project.

| Qualifications |
* A university degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Systems.
* Experience developing software products for commercial, multi-customer release versus internal, corporate/IT release a strong asset
* Practical hands-on experience with enterprise-grade development projects using Java, JSP, J2EE application servers, Servlets, Struts, and associated tools.
* Solid experience with relational database design and development using Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and developing advanced search algorithms.
* Proven ability to plan, prioritize, provide up to date estimates, take ownership, find solutions, make decisions and get work done in a fast-paced environment in which priorities and direction may shift frequently. .
* Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills - ability to recognize and find solutions for generalized meta-problems not just specific short-term challenges.
* Able to constructively discuss and evaluate design alternatives in a team environment by drawing on a broad knowledge base, objective criteria and best practices.
* Sound, practical understanding of iterative, agile development processes and practices such as Scrum, Crystal, XP or Agile RUP. |
